Petzval Refractor Telescope

A traditional refractor may use a simple doublet or triplet lens design. A Petzval design typically uses four or more optical elements arranged into multiple groups. The additional elements help correct optical problems, particularly field curvature.

This makes Petzval telescopes especially popular for astrophotography.
